Downtown Jersey City

Jersey City, located across the Hudson River from Manhattan, NYC, is a flourishing commercial center. Fortune 500 companies like Merrill Lynch and Chase Manhattan Bank own offices located along the waterfront in the Exchange Place district. Most prominent within the Downtown skyline is the Goldman Sachs office tower, a massive 42 story structure designed by architect, Cesar Pelli. Jersey City’s population of over 240,000 contains a substantially diverse ethnic community of Jewish, Italian, Cuban, Filipino, Polish, Indian, Irish, Puerto Rican, Dominican, African, Arab, and Asian citizens. Servicing the metropolitan is an extensive public transportation system which includes NY waterway ferries, PATH , and the Hudson-Bergin Light Rail .

In 1623, the territory that would later become Jersey City was established by the Dutch West India Company as a Dutch Colony. Although it’s had periods of corruption, it has also experienced a renaissance as a major industrial and immigration hub.
